Rats Guide

I split the rat page in two piles. Prices and the unlock come from the 1.0 trade guide. The prion answer comes from a September Steam thread where several players describe the same fix. Those are not the same kind of source, so the disease section says so.

Unlock, trap, feed

Rat Wrangler starts with the kit, or you buy Ranching on Wild’s Network for 750 in the trade guide. The kit listed there is a cage, a feed dispenser, three pairs, a cleaver, a blue labeler, a marking pen, nutrifruit, and peat. Traps are bought from Dr. Jackson or found at the dump and left in the shop overnight. Players say cheese raises the odds. Without it, the same posts say a catch can take days. That timing is community, not a patch note.

The dispenser holds 40,000 calories in that guide. The cited trade guide does not establish a fixed nightly calorie requirement for five adults; hunger depends on the animals. Cages expand with metal ingots. Scrap restores 50% of max durability. Each expansion adds 20 to max and current.

Breeding and the scanner

One male and one female. Pregnancy is 3 days and a litter averages 3 in the trade guide. Adults land near day 11 at about 450 g, and that carcass is 1 raw meat plus 1 small morsel. The gene scanner shows alleles. Green is the low-hunger allele they call good, red is high hunger. Immunity serum raises immunity. Steroid serum speeds growth and cuts immunity. What the letters and the small numbers mean beyond that is not spelled out.

An auto butcher works at night and skips breeders you marked with the pen. Meat prices in the same guide, treated as a Mark Up sample: 400 g raw 159, 200 g small 65, 100 g morsel 30, small morsel 15.

Prion disease

A 29 September Steam thread, with a run of agreeing replies, says feeding rat meat back to the rats causes prion disease even at high immunity, and that it does not cure. The fix they repeat is to empty the feed dispenser completely, because a leftover portion brings it back, and to feed something that is not rat. Contagion between cages, the best weight, and the best sex ratio are still argued. No official note settles them.

Feces can be fertilizer or dropped in a water tank for a slow water trickle, in the trade guide. Vacuum and cleaner robots pick it up.

FAQ

Why are the rats always sick?

The Steam thread’s shared answer is prion from rat meat in the feeder. Empty the dispenser and change the feed. That is player consensus, not a patch note.

How does the mousetrap work?

Buy or scavenge it, leave it in the shop overnight. Cheese is what players credit for faster catches. No official rate is published.
