What an Aug is

In the day-12 lesson, an Aug is a person whose implant was taken over. The mentor drops two papers, The Augmented and the Security Department Augmented Identification Guide, and leaves a shotgun under the counter.

The guide’s three visual tells are a visible chip at the temple or forehead, unusual pupils, and a fixed, too-wide expression. The five non-visual tells are unnatural stillness, twitching, clothes that do not match the faction, robotic vocabulary, and overly formal phrasing. The Steam shot of a customer saying they are a normal human is the textbook case of the last one.

Do not shoot on a hunch

The identification guide says to shoot only when sure, and not to call security: Augs are described as already inside the comms, gone before a patrol arrives. Asking for medical supplies is a need Augs have, and ordinary customers buy medicine too. It is not a verdict.

The Aug Scanner is base 200, size 2×3, and its item text says 100% accuracy. That is the only certain check in the notes. The 1.0 guide shows 20% beside Threaten (Aug) on the bargain panel; that display is not independently verified as a guaranteed discount and says it fails on a normal customer, with a reputation hit. It is not a test.

The shotgun can be equipped on a security warning day. A 1.0 note records a day-30 kill paying 118 credits. A wrongful kill goes on a mistake counter and drops Security reputation. The size of that drop is not published.

Letting one walk

If Aug presence hits 100% and the Aug Menace perk is on, the notes name an Augmented failure ending. A patch line from August says a missed Aug does not end a normal run unless you are on hard mode. Lou’s 1,500 bounty, after hotfix 1.0.0.2, is collected by calling security. She can no longer be shot for it.

The Steam achievement says to shoot 10 augmented. Tracking across runs is reported by the allthings.how achievement guide, a single publisher; the official description does not specify that behavior.
